Walking through a Winter Wonderland is nice, but brunching, crafting, shopping and singing through a YUMMY! Wonderland is better. Phoenicia Specialty Foods is doing just that, hosting the YUMMY! Wonderland International Holiday Festival & Brunch with Santa. The celebration brings the best global holiday traditions under one festive roof for a party that’s full of merriment and joy for the entire family.
Like the diverse and delicious offerings at Phoenicia, the YUMMY! Wonderland Festival highlights the cuisine and customs of multiple countries and regions including the United States, Mexico, Latin America, Russia and the Ukraine. Talento Bilingüe de Houston will host a performance, as will the Russian Cultural Center and Ukrainian National Women's League of America and children from the Ukranian school. The performances will showcase holiday music and dancing from their respective countries.
Theatre Under the Stars’ Humphreys School of Musical Theater students will sing Christmas carols, as will students from Awty International School’s international choir singing in English, French and Spanish. KINETIC, a fresh, new conductorless orchestra comprised of 16 string players led by Natalie Lin will perform “Around the World.” Lin hails from New Zealand, and not only teaches violin, but is also pursuing doctoral studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.
FLY Dance Company will give guests a preview of their holiday Jingle FLY show. The Houston Rockets will join in the fun with giveaways and games with a possible guest appearance by their mascot Clutch.
In addition to experiencing live performances, families can create memories together at hands-on craft centers including a flip book craft from Aurora Picture Show and cookie decorating. Houston Makerspace will host a Young Makers activity station for making embossed holiday cards. And, because all children want to tell Santa Claus what’s on their wish list, Santa will make an appearance, speaking with children in French, Spanish and English. Photo opportunities will be available.
The festival also features holiday shopping opportunities from local artists and The Community Cloth, a local organization selling artisanal hand-crafted products locally made by women who come from all corners of the world and now make Houston their home. On view along Phoenicia's storefront windows will be holiday scenes by students from Glassell School of Art.
The YUMMY! Wonderland festival and performances are free and open to the public. All-you-can-eat brunch tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children (ages 4-12). Children 3 and under, free admission. Brunch, coffee and juice will be served from 9 am - 3 pm and are included in the ticket price.
