This individual site-specific performance, conceived by Core Program critic Hanna Yoo, invites 11 Houston-based artists to intervene in the museum's Hirsch Library in conjunction with the the 2014 Core Exhibition.
The April 4 performance, which is followed by an opening reception, is by Regina Agu, Antena (Jen Hofer and John Pluecker) and a quartet (Damon Smith, Sandy Ewen, Ryan Edwards and Rebecca Novak). The April 11 counterpoint performance is by pairs Autumn Knight, Lisa E. Harris, Lauren Moya Ford and Rebecca Novak. A sound installation by Lina Dib will be embedded in the library from April 4 to May 2. This is the first site-specific contemporary art project held at the Hirsch Library.
The 2014 Core Exhibition features work by artists-in-residence Julia Brown, Anahita Ghazvinizadeh, Anna Elise Johnson, Senalka McDonald, Harold Mendez, Madsen Minax and Ronny Quevedo. Core critics-in-residence Patrik Haggren and Hanna Yoo contribute essays based on their independent research to the Core 2014 Yearbook, which is published in conjunction with the exhibition.
