Operation Smile Houston Gala

The 2019 Houston Smile Gala will celebrate the hundreds of thousands of life-changing surgeries provided in more than 60 countries around the globe since 1982 as well as the thousands of smiles Operation Smile aspires to deliver this year.

Every three minutes, a child is born with a cleft. A cleft condition can create serious health issues if not corrected; babies can have difficulty with feeding, which in some parts of the world can lead to malnutrition, or even starvation. Speech and language development can also be impaired. Due to widespread and deep-rooted social stigma, these children often experience ridicule and social isolation. In too many cases, they face uncertain futures because of limited access to health care and strained financial resources.
