Art opening: "Yuletide: Holiday Time at Bayou Bend"

eventdetail
Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

One of Houston's most cherished holiday traditions, "Yuletide: Holiday Time at Bayou Bend" transforms Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens into a winter wonderland with festive lighting and historic recreations of holiday moments from the 17th century to the 20th century.

This year's exhibition includes a room dedicated to early American children's toys, as well as vignettes of opulence in the dining room and the Chillman Parlor that celebrate the America of the 1830s. Past favorites making a return in this year's exhibition are Benjamin Franklin's Christmas dinner in the Drawing Room and a staged Victorian "cobweb" game in Belter Parlor.

Guests can sit down and become a part of the home's mid-20th century history in the Pine Room library. Set in the 1930s and 1940s, the room will display books from the Hogg family's personal collection and feature cozy touches, such as a crackling faux fire and Christmas decorations that carry on Ima Hogg's past traditions.

On view through Jan. 1.
