Opening of William Betts: New Mirror Paintings

eventdetail
Devin Borden Hiram Butler Gallery

William Betts, a recipient of an Individual Artist Grant Award from the Houston Arts Alliance, creates his paintings by drilling hundreds of thousands of holes in the back of acrylic mirrors and filling them with only white paint. For this series, he applies the technique to images he captured in the late 1980s of a failed subdivision in the desert north of Scottsdale, Ariz. In the process, Betts expresses how the real estate industry's recklessness of that era is all too familiar today.

A reception for the exhibition will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. William Betts: New Mirror Paintings is on view through Dec. 2.
