Opening of Sarah Oppenheimer

eventdetail

Fill in the blanks at the opening of D-17, an installation by Sarah Oppenheimer at Rice Gallery. Join Oppenheimer as she rethinks and reinvents the most taken-for-granted elements of architectural space: planes and holes. At the Rice space, the artist will focus on the way light enters the gallery through the building's façade of exterior windows, an entry foyer area and the gallery's front glass wall. With this technique, she derives artistic situations that not only are beautiful to look at, but also elicit unforeseen visual and bodily sensations.

Rice Gallery will host an opening celebration on Thursday, Sept. 16 from 5-7 p.m., including a gallery talk by Sarah Oppenheimer at 6 p.m. Beats will be provided by DJ Tristan Celement.

A gallery talk and luncheon with the artist will be held on Friday, Sept. 17 at noon.

Both events are free and open to the public. The exhibition is on view through Dec. 5.
