In this latest body of work, Houston-based artist Joe Mancuso utilizes a variety of unexpected elements to create works that quietly defy their humble origins. Under Mancuso's gaze, simple materials - tiers of plywood and layers of newspaper - are transformed into the hauntingly sublime. While each work is executed in what the artist describes as "a very direct, primitive manner," the results often belie their process.
Join Mancuso for a reception on Sept. 10, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
The exhibit is on view through Oct. 9.
