Austin-based band The Nightowls pulls its dancing-in-the-street spirit straight out of Motown, channeling classic R&B sounds while also pushing at the genre's boundaries, creating a unique neo-soul sound. Igniting stages since 2011, the band has gained loyal fans through weekly residencies including Motown Mondays at Austin's famed venue the Highball. The group is widening its reach through shows this spring in Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Fort Worth and Corpus Christi.
Led by front man, Ryan Harkrider, the 10-piece ensemble released its first album, Good As Gold, in December 2013. As a follow-up, the Nightowls will release this April its debut recording on vinyl. The band's original, "Nobody Ever Wants to Leave," from the EP Good As Gold B-Sides (September 2014), was recently commissioned by the Austin Convention and Visitor's Bureau as the city's official theme song.
The Nightowls continue to stretch their wings in 2015, with touring and a brand new album (slated for fall) being finalized now at the legendary Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
