In Unwhole, Nicole Longnecker Gallery features a new series of sculptural work by Kelley Devine. The concurrent exhibition Vinyl Voyage shows new abstract expressionist work by Adam Nisenson.
Devine is a Houston-based fine artist who works in a variety of media to explore issues of society and self. Devine received her bachelors of art with an emphasis in sculpture at Southeastern Louisiana University. Devine describes herself as "a mother, artist, entrepreneur and avid cyclist" and says her art helps her communicate what she sees as the opposing forces within the human psyche.
As an artist and trained graphic designer, Nisenson is captivated by typography and the images of everyday marketing and advertising. Using his love for found objects with a focus on reusing items that would otherwise be discarded, he reuses vinyl banners and super-graphics to create new abstract compositions that emphasize color and shape.
On view through Oct. 18.
