One dozen acclaimed ice artists from around the country competed for a cash prize, people's choice award and ice game clout. Ice sculptors used chainsaws, blow torches, razor sharp chisels and talent to transformed blocks of ice into amazing works of art in five hours. The competition featured ice blocks harvested using more than 1500 gallons of recycled rain water, in keeping with Discovery Green's mission and following the competition the ice will be used to water the park’s landscaping.
The Magnificent 7 includes: Aaron Costic, Buddy Rasmussen, Danny Bloss, Steve Brice, Heather Brice, Max Zuleta and Benjamin Rand.
Schedule:
10 a.m. - Ice carving begins
noon - Kid-friendly carving with Reverend Butter
3 p.m. - Judging begins
4:15 p.m. - Judging ceremony
4:30 p.m. - Downfall 2012 and Reverend Butter ice-off
