Nathan's Famous July Fourth International Hot Dog-Eating Contest

Major League Eating and Memorial City Mall host a regional qualifier for the Nathan's Famous July Fourth International Hot Dog-Eating Contest. This event is the second official stop on the 2014 qualifying circuit.

Several nationally ranked eaters are scheduled to compete, including Texans 28th ranked Nasty Nate Biller and 42nd ranked Bam Martinez. They will be challenged by Seattle's Erik "The Red" Denmark, 18th ranked Las Vegas' Juan Rodriguez and a host Houston area competitors. The top male and top female finishers will earn a spot to compete in the ESPN-televised finals at the original Nathan's Famous, a holiday tradition since 1916.

Prior to the actual contest, fans may enjoy the Nathan's Famous Mobile Tour (10 a.m.-1:30 p.m.), featuring original Coney Island Board Walk games such as a fortune telling booth and photo booth with green screen in which attendees may have their photos made with 2013 Hot Dog champion Joey Chestnut. Games, prizes and samplings of Nathan's fare will take place outside the west mall entrance near the ice rink.

Nathan's onsite Memorial City store will offer couponing throughout the day and a children's Neat Eat contest will take place inside the mall at noon.

Those interested in competing in the qualifier should obtain information and register online. All competitors must be over 18 years of age.
