Composer Chris Becker presents composed and improvised music accompanying silent films by friends and fellow artists. Becker premiered this project in a special set presented by the Caroline Sessions at CultureMap.

Using the software program Ableton Live and a large collection of samples, Becker improvises a soundtrack to each silent film, selecting and layering sounds like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Although the music for each film begins with a prepared, partially composed “template," once the film hits the screen, an improvised dialogue between the music and the images begins. For this Music For Silent Films event, Becker is joined by Houston bassist Thomas Helton.
