More than 50 students from MacGregor Elementary, Stevenson Middle School and Wheatley High School have studied the history, heritage and hype of hip-hop for two semesters to bring this presentation to the stage. This is the second year that Music Doing Good in Schools has offered this TEKS-aligned, after-school musical arts enrichment program to students attending Title I schools.

The program provides a safe place for exploration and self-expression, confidence-building, leadership skills and real-world knowledge of a professional artistic experience. Music Doing Good in Schools reaches the whole child through music.

"One Stop Hip-Hop Shop" explores history, poetry, social issues, culture and music. The students also studied the main tenets of hip-hop — dancing, deejaying, grafitting and emceeing. They examined rap's predecessors, hip-hop artists' messages and the creation of self-expressive works through their participation in Music Doing Good in Schools.
