Music Box Theater
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee centers on a fictional spelling bee set in a geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Middle School. Six quirky adolescents (played by adult actors) compete in the bee, run by three equally-quirky grown-ups. The 2005 Broadway production garnered six Tony nominations and two wins, including Best Book.
An unusual (and always hilarious) aspect of the show is that four real audience members are invited on stage each night to compete in the spelling bee alongside the six young characters. Parental discretion is advised.
The cast features Cay Taylor, Marco Camacho, Beth Lazarou, Braden Hunt, Rick Evans, Martha Patton, Luke Wrobel, Kristina Sullivan and Chioke Coreathers.
