The Moores School of Music Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Blake Wilkins, celebrates the Centennial of American composer Lou Harrison. A celebrated paragon of the West Coast School, Harrison was a pioneer of percussion ensemble composition and major contributor of early literature for the medium. Many of his works draw upon “found sounds” not normally regarded as standard instruments, such wash tubs, spring coils and brake drums.
The program will feature Harrison’s Concerto for Violin and Percussion Ensemble. The program will also include the composer’s Canticles No. 1 & 3 and the Suite for Percussion.
