Moody Gallery will host an exhibition of new paintings and drawings by Dan Sutherland. rift marks his fifth solo exhibition with the gallery since 2006.
"In his recent series of graphite drawings on paper and oil paintings on aluminum and wood panel, Sutherland makes images of almost-things and nearly-places in which abstract forms are subject to quasi-naturalistic phenomenon. Sunlight, gravity, and atmosphere distort and delineate dimensional structures that never quite conform to the laws of nature. Colors flatten, plateaus dissolve, and historical styles collide in works that appeal to our sense of comprehension only to defy it, providing unstable ground from which to view expansive and contradictory landscapes.” - Daniel Dove, 2019
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display until May 11.
