Moody Gallery will present Extinctions, an exhibition of new work by Al Souza. For a number of years Souza's work has been involved in part with the book as a visceral object. This exhibition is a reference to Elizabeth Kolbert's book, The Sixth Extinction.
The books Souza used in these works were printed from the mid-19th century through the early 20th. Most were de-accessioned from college and public libraries due to space and budget conscious libraries that can no longer store their collection and must de-accession or digitize them. Many are simply recycled.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through May 30.
