Moody Gallery will host "Hair of the Dog," an exhibition of new work by Helen Altman. The exhibit includes sculpture, drawing, mixed media work and photography that deal primarily with the way people relate to nature.
Altman's focus on the environment stems from her love of wildlife and the natural world. Using a thermal transfer process, Altman creates a series of quilted baby blankets, imprinted with found images of animals. Altman will also install a flock of her well-known sculptures of birds on branches. Hand weaving each life size bird out of wire, Altman's attention to detail often makes the birds' species recognizable.
Also featured in this exhibition are Altman's torch drawings. Substituting pen and pencil for a propane torch, Altman burns images of wildlife into the paper.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through July 1.
