Moody Gallery art opening reception: The Anatomy of Counting and Position by James Drake

eventdetail

Moody Gallery presents a solo exhibition of new drawings by James Drake. This marks the gallery's sixth exhibition with the artist since 2004. The Anatomy of Counting and Position includes approximately eight new drawings made as a continuation of Drake's epic two-year project to make one drawing each day, which has resulted in 1,242 individual drawings currently on view at the Blanton Museum of Art in Austin.

The Anatomy of Counting and Position, presented by Moody Gallery, is inspired by Master Drawings From the Collection of the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts, the first book on drawings acquired by the artist. Drake removes the pages from this book and uses them as the paper on which he makes his own drawings, rendered in graphite, ink, charcoal, collage and stencil. These new drawings are a continuation and an expansion of Drake's interest in combining classical drawing with contemporary thought.
