The Moody Center for the Arts presents Everything Rises, a multimedia musical work centered on connection, resonance, and the creation of a new artistic space.
Developed over several years by an all-BIPOC creative team, including composer Ken Ueno and director Alexander Gedeon, Everything Rises explores the struggle of being an artist of color in classical disciplines dominated by whiteness.
Through music, projections, and recorded interviews, co-creators violinist Jennifer Koh and bass-baritone Davóne Tines share their artistic journeys and family histories. In the process of navigating a culture fraught with histories of racism, they reclaim narratives about who they are as performers, creators, and individuals.
