Classical Theatre Company, known for unearthing, re-working and performing brilliant but forgotten historical works, presents its very first comedic production: Moliere's Tartuffe, on stage at Barnevelder Arts & Movement Complex.
Once highly controversial—the archbishop of Paris threatened to excommunicate anyone who attended, read or performed it when it was written in 1664—Tartuffe follows Orgon, who falls under the influence of a scheming figure masquerading as a religious zealot, while his family—his cunning wife, a wise brother-in-law, an obedient daughter, a cantankerous son, and a sassy maid—attempt to sway him back to reason, while laughs and chaos ensue.
