Mitochondria Gallery will present "It Takes a Village: Yesterday and Tomorrow,: curated by Raquel Seymone, a group exhibition that explores kinship and community as essential foundations for cultural preservation.
Inspired by American poet Paul Laurence Dunbar’s poem, “Yesterday and To-morrow,” the exhibition considers the weight of memory as a tool that moves us through the present with purpose and care toward the future. Drawing from shared histories and personal narratives, the works hold space for the complexities of community while emphasizing the importance of celebration and reflection to preserve the people and practices that shape us.
This exhibition features new works by Ayobola Kekere-Ekun, Lisa Cain, Mark Francis, Ryan Williams, Zsudayka Nzinga, Kansiime Brian Lister, Terence Byas, Alpha Odhiambo, and Qhamanande Maswana.
The exhibition will remain on display through June 21.
