More than 80 veterans from across the country will begin a new mission serving at home, starting with an all-hands community service project at the Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory School in South Houston. The veterans are the latest recruits for The Mission Continues, a national nonprofit organization that has helped more than 700 post-9/11 veterans successfully transition to post-military life by reconnecting to their communities and their sense of purpose through volunteerism.

Community members are invited to join with volunteers from Shell and Boeing to rebuild the school's bleachers, plant new gardens, landscape grounds and remove an outdated performance stage.

Following the service blitz and a weekend of classroom training, the veterans will line up at attention at the school and pledge to serve their communities – similar to the oath of service they each took when beginning their military careers.

The volunteer service project is from 1-5 p.m., the oath ceremony is at 5 p.m.
