Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
Archaeological excavations of ancient Mayan cities have been taking place since the 19th century, and many spectacular discoveries have been uncovered in these deep, remote, jungle locations. However, it is within the museum collections that hold these magnificent discoveries that the story of the Maya can be retold.
Archaeologist Cara Grace Tremain explores the secrets revealed by Mayan objects in museum collections, including the MFAH, which were once part of the daily lives of the ancient Maya.
A reception to meet the speaker follows the program.
