Houghton Hall, the home of Britain's first prime minister, hosts an historic collection of decorative arts. Especially notable is a stunning array of silverware from the late 16th to early 20th centuries. The objects in the exhibition — incorporating ornamental engraving, intricate relief patterns and semi-precious gemstones — highlight the craftsmanship of the most renowned British silversmiths patronized by the monarchy and aristocracy for generations.
Steve Pine, senior decorative arts conservator, begins this program with a presentation and demonstration about the proper care and conservation of your silver, followed by a brief visit to the exhibition Houghton Hall: Portrait of an English Country House.
