The 6th Annual Houston District Auditions of the Metropolitan Opera National Council will feature close to 40 young opera singers from around the United States who will compete for over $7,000 in cash prizes and the chance to perform on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera.

Houston District winners will compete in the Regional Auditions in New Orleans, striving to reach the Grand Finals in New York. Baritones Reginald Smith, Jr., from the Houston Grand Opera Studio 2013-2015, and Nicholas Brownlee, a 2014 Masters Degree graduate from Rice University’s Shepherd School, were National Council Winners in the 2015 Auditions. Current HGO Studio Artists baritone Sol Jin and soprano Yelena Dyachek were National Council Winners in 2016.

The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions are now in their 64th year to discover exceptional talent by providing a venue for young opera singers across North America to be heard by representatives of the Metropolitan Opera. The auditions are open to opera singers between the ages of 20 and 30 and are instrumental for their operatic careers.
