Volunteers are needed on May 28, 9 a.m. to plant 600 flags at Discovery Green to serve as memorial to all lives lost in the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The memorial consists of a labeled United States and Texas flag for each of the almost 600 Texans killed in both conflicts, and prayer flags and photos to denote the many tens of thousands of Afghan and Iraqi civilian losses. The flags will remain on display through May 30, when more volunteers will be needed to help take them down at 7 p.m.
The memorial is sponsored by the Houston chapters of Veterans for Peace and CodePink.
