MECA presents El sueño de la razón produce monstruos

MECA will present a new work by Houston-based theater artist, Angeles Romero and her company, Absolute Art Productions. El sueño de la razón produce monstruos (The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters) is an original Absolute Art Productions multimedia theatre work, written and directed by Romero, that interweaves two plots - on stage, a household of women depicts Mexico’s struggle for sovereignty against Napoleon III during the Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862; on screen, a condemned activist braces himself to face his assassins by video-recording of his final reflections on social justice. A harlequinesque narrator prescribes the “official” historical account, one of total irrelevancy, since ultimately, the unexpected Mexican victory did not change the outcome of a French takeover a year later. El sueño de la razón produce monstruos sets out to awaken us from our social numbness with a compelling and intimate story of someone that resists surrendering to the oppressor to the very end.

This play will be performed in Spanish.
