A native of Houston and graduate of the Art Institute of Houston, Mark Piñón derives artistic inspiration from the Mexican American/Chicano collective consciousness in works that reflect social histories spanning from contemporary times to the indigenous past. Working primarily in acrylics and multi-media on canvas, his paintings depict beauty, spirituality, the quest for freedom and justice and the vitality of Chicano culture.
A graduate of the High School for the Performing & Visual Arts, an alumnus of the Glassell Junior School of Art and a pianist and composer of rap lyrics and beats, Marc-Antony Piñón’s early works were heavily influenced by the urban environment of his native H-Town. His figurative, symbolic illustrations project commentaries on the urban experience and the social plight of inner-city youth. In time, his work has evolved from pen and ink, marker and pastel drawings on board to abstract, surrealistic digital art projecting futuristic visions.
