Literacy Advance of Houston will present its annual Scrabble in the City fundraiser. Teams of four square off against all comers at this boisterous and action-packed event, which takes the word game to a whole new level with game-changers, special challenges, music, and dancing. Participants will enjoy two rounds of Scrabble, Saint Arnold’s brews, raffle drawings, a silent auction, and prizes for Best Team Name and Best Team Costume, as well as the top honor: the coveted Scrabble in the City trophy.
Proceeds from the evening benefit Literacy Advance, the city’s oldest and largest volunteer-based literacy organization, which serves more than 3,000 students and families each year through adult literacy classes, workforce development services, outreach programming and family literacy events. The nonprofit, now in its 53rd year, relies on sponsorships and donations to provide free literacy education throughout the greater Houston area.
