As the title of her talk suggests, Mona Hadler, a scholar of postwar painting and sculpture, finds extreme worlds and extreme emotions in the work of Lee Bontecou, an artist whom she has studied in great depth. In Women's Art Journal, Hadler, professor of art history at Brooklyn College and at City University of New York, writes that Bontecou "fuses the beautiful with the threatening, the everyday with the fantastic, the abstract with the real, the horrible with the humorous."
