Menil Collection
Art historian Eileen Costello, who specializes in postwar American and European art, has studied the work of Brice Marden over a 10-year period. From his emergence as master of the monochrome panel to his explorations of the gestures and meanings of calligraphy, Marden has had a profound impact on contemporary art. The Menil holds a masterwork by this American artist.
In the first of a new series published by Phaidon, Eileen Costello explores the complexities of the artist's oeuvre. The result is a book that provides deep insight into "the most profound abstract painter of the past four decades," as The New Yorker's art critic Peter Schjeldahl has called Marden.
Copies of Brice Marden will be available for purchase and signing after the lecture.
