Laura Rathe Fine Art will host an exhibition of new works by contemporary ceramic artist, Lucrecia Waggoner, in a solo show. Waggoner’s work moves beyond the confines of functional pottery. Her careful craftsmanship, and ornamental detail has led her to create beautiful wall sculptures that are purely aesthetic. Using a potter’s wheel to build clay into delicate vessels, she has transformed porcelain into a sophisticated fine art form. Her works are shown internationally and acquired in various private, public and corporate collections.
For the new collection, Waggoner chose the bold simplicity of a black and white color palette to give her work a new edge. While her inspiration is still deeply rooted in organic forms and natural elements – flowers, butterflies, trees, rivers – this series is meant to express a more contemporary perspective. There is a freshness to this collection, with bold color and form and the mixture of disparate media. Continuing to utilize precious metal leafing in 22K gold and palladium, and the natural element of wood, this exhibition represents the next step and Waggoner’s creative expression.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through December 17.
