Latin Wave 8 screening: Gone Fishing

eventdetail
Celluloid Dreams

The eighth edition of Latin Wave: New Films from Latin America takes place May 2–5, with a group of new films premiering at the MFAH.

Middle-aged Buenos Aires native Marcos Tucci (Alejandro Awada) is a recovering alcoholic on his way to Patagonia to try his hand at fishing for shark. Bonding with a number of offbeat strangers, Marcos' true intentions begin to emerge: He longs to reconnect with his estranged daughter Ana (Victoria Almeida), who has settled with her husband and infant son in the nearby town of Jaramillo.

Filmed on location on the glorious Patagonian coastline, and employing a supporting cast of nonprofessional actors drawn from the region, Gone Fishing slowly unravels its tale of familial rupture and reconciliation with beguiling subtlety and movingly restrained emotion. This gentle yet deeply resonant drama artfully weaves its beautiful, untamed locale into its tale of missed connections and second chances.
