Ernesto Daranas's debut feature Behavior has impressed audiences by taking on taboo topics and revealing the less picturesque realities of life in Cuba. Eleven-year-old Chala (Armando Valdes Freire) lives with his mother Sonia (Yuliet Cruz), an addict who provides for the two of them by raising carrier pigeons. School affords a stabilizing force thanks to his teacher Carmela (Alina Rodríguez).
When another teacher sends Chala to live in a "re-education" facility, Carmela is determined to take on the system to get him back. Poignant, political and socially aware, Behavior is an eye-opening experience for those who love Cuba and Cuban cinema.
