Local nonprofit Justice Forward will host Picnic for Progress, its inaugural fundraiser. The socially distanced, outdoor event will raise funds for Justice Forward to support Harris County Specialty Court clients, who have been especially impacted by COVID-19.
Necessary precautions will be taken at the outdoor event to ensure social distancing. Dinner and entertainment will be provided.
The organization now supports all 18 Harris County Specialty Courts, which help individuals with drug dependencies, mental illness and/or other societal challenges by introducing therapy-based solutions into the criminal justice system. Justice Forward supports the courts by providing essential services for their clients, such as housing, transportation, counseling, job coaching, gift cards and more. These services and incentives reward and redirect client behavior, ultimately helping them become healthy, productive members of society.
