Jung Center Houston Lecture and Performance: "Dancing the Divine Feminine"

Discover how the divine feminine appears vividly in the art of Middle Eastern dance and in the dancer in this presentation and performance. After a brief exploration of the origins, history and styles of Middle Eastern dance, guests will discuss the contemporary state of the art and reflect on the relationship of the dancer to the divine feminine.

A live performance of Raqs Masri, the basis of all contemporary Middle Eastern dance, will follow.

A dance performer, choreographer and scholar who hopes to redefine the boundaries of traditional dance, Kristina Koutsoudas has won many awards for her work from such institutions as the Houston Arts Alliance, Rice University, University of Texas at Austin, University of Houston Clear Lake, the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Dance Houston, Texas Commission on the Arts and the Jewish Community Center of Houston.
