Chris Conyers

After his landmark retrospective at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, John Alexander returns with a new show at McClain Gallery, which kicks off with an artist cocktail soirée. His imagery has remained the same — masked figures, wide-eyed monkeys and intently staring demons. The Beaumont-native has no reason to change his Old Master style.

Once a University of Houston art professor, Alexander now lives and works in New York. Still, the chaos in his large-scale canvases is decidedly Gulf Coast.
