One hundred twenty years before Minute Maid Park opened, Houstonians were enjoying downtown baseball. During that span, more than three-fourths of all the players enshrined in Baseball's Hall of Fame made a stop in the Bayou City.
Mike Vance will discuss the first three professional sports stadiums in Houston. Along the way, he will share tales of greats like Dizzy Dean, Ty Cobb, Satchel Paige and Babe Ruth. There will even be stories about the UT and A&M football game that was played annually in Houston and the near riots that brought the first halt in the storied rivalry. Accompanying the talk will be dozens of rich illustrations.
