Due to the ongoing pandemic, the annual One Walk has evolved into a virtual event with a twist. Although participants will not be able to gather together in large groups at Walk sites in Houston or The Woodlands, a DIY approach to Walk will not change the unity and commitment to finding a cure.
The goal is to walk 1.6 million miles in support of the 1.6 million Americans living with T1D and raise $50 million in honor of JDRF’s 50th Anniversary. JDRF hopes to “walk” closer to cures, prevention and better treatments. From walking in a neighborhood or at a park to virtually walking with friends and family around the world, the ability to be a part of a much larger One Walk this year is limitless.
Rather than meeting up at NRG or Lone Star College, JDRF walkers will have their own community within Roblox, an online platform. After exploring the One Walk site through the gaming environment, they can get outside and walk and track their miles using the STRAVA app for Apple and Android.
