Asia Society Texas Center
The Triple Disaster of March 11, 2011, left thousands deceased, injured or missing, and remains a seminal episode in the contemporary collective memory of the Japanese people. In response, Asia Society Texas Center and the Consulate-General of Japan in Houston present a program to recall struggles of the northeast Japanese Tōhoku region's inhabitants and how the human spirit has endured over the past two-and-a-half years.
The evening will open with a screening of Light Up Nippon, a documentary that highlights a fireworks performance to boost the morale of survivors in Fukushima, Iwate and Miyagi Prefectures. Following the screening, there will be a short presentation by Fukushima University students, who will share personal experiences of March 2011 along with the reconstruction of business and agriculture in Fukushima Prefecture.
