Celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Japan, the 24th Annual Japan Festival brings to Houston the colorful traditions and decorations of Japan’s Children's Day.

Taking center stage, alongside flowing koinobori carp streamers, will be the young reigning champions of Amateur Night at the Apollo, hip-hop dance and singing group Jr. Exile of Japan’s talent development program Project TARO (Top Artist Road). Ranging in age from 15-17, the eight boys of Jr. Exile are the subject of a popular Japanese reality TV show following their 3.5 year training in New York.

Other festival highlights include:

  • Spiritual Kagura mask dance
  • An imperial parade by Okinawan dance troupe Kayonokai
  • Traditional tea ceremony in the Japanese Garden azumaya
  • The thundering sounds of Kaminari Taiko
