Through music, dance and celebrations of community, "Earth Dance" is a large global festival for world peace that has radiated harmony from more than 600 locations in 50 countries since 1997. The event's 2014 musical "Prayer for Peace" will be played simultaneously on Sept. 20 — the annual United Nations Peace Day — in the morning in the Australian rainforest, at midnight in London, at sunrise in the Himalayas and at 6 p.m. in Houston.
Houston's ninth annual festival, produced by ISKCON of Houston and Ecstatic Dance of Houston, will feature an interactive "spiral dance," a drum circle, cultural programs, vegan/vegetarian food, henna, face-painting, kirtan (mantra-chanting) and an interactive presentation titled "The Power of Noticing" by transformation teacher and life coach Tina Marie St. Cyr.
Each Earth Dance event promotes and financially benefits local charities in the areas of peace, environmental sustainability and social justice. The Houston event will support Kid's Meals Project.
