Inside the MFAH Friday Afternoon Lecture: "Cat Lady Chic"

eventdetail

The term "cat lady" often evokes the image of an unfashionable, unkempt and slightly unhinged spinster hoarding multiple cats. Merging her passion for art with her love for cats, Diane Lovejoy seeks to forever dispel this unflattering stereotype in her book, Cat Lady Chic. USA Today picked the title as one of the top 10 gift books of 2014.

Kicking off the Inside the MFAH Friday Afternoon Lectures series for 2014, Lovejoy offers highlights from her insightful and funny introductory essay on the cat lady conundrum, and discusses some of the 80 photographs of iconic women with the cats they love reproduced in the book — from classic beauties such as Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren and Audrey Hepburn to Georgia O'Keeffe, Diana Ross, Marilyn Monroe, Zelda Fitzgerald, Lauren Bacall, Joan Jett, Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly, modern femmes fatales Lana Del Rey and Keira Knightley, and many more.

A reception and book signing follow the talk.
