The Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series will present authors Jonathan Lethem and Gary Shteyngart.

Lethem, a MacArthur “genius” fellow, has written novels like Motherless Brooklyn, winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award; The Fortress of Solitude, a New York Times bestseller; and Chronic City, a New York Times Best Book of the Year. He is also the author of several story collections and nonfiction books, including The Ecstasy of Influence, a New York Times Notable Book and a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. He comes to Houston to read from his 11th novel, The Feral Detective, which follows an unlikely pair as they navigate the enclaves of desert-dwelling vagabonds to find a missing girl.

Shteyngart is back for his first novel in seven years, Lake Success. This is a funny, biting, resonant novel featuring hedge-fund manager Barry Cohen and his super-smart wife, Seema. Barry takes off on a cross-country bus ride and both are dealing with demons from their past. How these two flawed characters navigate the Shteyngartian chaos of their own making is at the heart of this piercing exploration of the 0.1 Percent, a poignant tale of familial longing and an unsentimental ode to what really makes America great.
