Pianist Gabriela Montero joins the Houston Symphony to bring to life Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, a piece made famous by the 1980 movie Somewhere in Time. From the Caprice No. 24 in A minor for solo violin, the familiar tune is manipulated creating playful, virtuosic and achingly romantic passages.
Turina's Danzas fantásticas adds an exotic flavor to the program while Mozart's Symphony No. 40 closes the concert with playful poise and elegance.
