Composed during a vacation in Cairo, Saint-Saëns’s Piano Concerto No. 5, Egyptian - played by pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet - runs the gamut from delicate grace to powerhouse virtuosity. And, castanets click, fiery flamenco rhythms blaze, and sensuous sonic colors saturate the stage in a rare complete performance of Manuel de Falla’s The Three-Cornered Hat.
