Austrian conductor Christian Arming leads the Houston Symphony in a performance of Shostakovich's controversial Fifth Symphony. Shostakovich’s opposition to government control over artistic creativity motivated the writing of the piece and generations have questioned the sincerity of its nationalistic sound.
