The Miller mainstay kicks off Houston Symphony's Centennial Celebration with a Houston-centric concert featuring music from its inaugural season, cameos from famous Houstonians and a fireworks finale.
Conducted by Robert Franz, the concert will be broadcast live on KTRK Ch. 13 and will feature some of the most beloved classical works, pops hits and even a few surprises, including an appearance by American Idol finalist, Houstonian LaKisha Jones. The orchestra will perform classical blockbusters like Beethoven's Ode to Joy with the Houston Symphony Chorus, selections from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker and John Williams' Celebration Fanfare, written for the Houston Symphony. Plus, hear music from The Planets – An HD Odyssey, paired with images of NASA's exploration of the solar system projected on a giant screen.
This is a ticketed event for the covered seating area. Free tickets are available (four per person over age 16 while they last) at the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office the day of the performance between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. If tickets remain at 1 p.m., the box office will re-open one hour before show time to distribute the remaining tickets. Open seating on the hill is always available.
