Houston Public Library Summer Reading Program

The Houston Public Library and Discovery Green will team up for a Summer Reading Series with story time, activitiesm and crafts in the Morgan Reading Room.

The following events will be featured:

  • July 2: The Armadillo’s Dream - Houston Grand Opera debuts its first original storybook with this inspiring story of resilience, featuring an armadillo named Sandy who lives on the Buffalo Bayou and dreams of singing.
  • July 9: Jelly Belly Schmelly Show: Balloon Show - Toni Simmons brings stories to life with the use of rhythms, songs, chants and audience participation. Her interactive presentations include a variety of multicultural folktales.
  • July 16: Storytelling with Toni Simmons - Toni Simmons brings stories to life with the use of rhythms, songs, chants and audience participation. Her interactive presentations include a variety of multicultural folktales.
  • July 23: Crocodile Encounter - In this educational and fun program, children can participate in hands-on interactions with reptiles including turtles, snakes, crocodiles, alligators and more.
  • July 30: Nature Discovery Center: Scales and Tales - Children, teens and parents are invited to explore all things scaly in this learning experience with snakes, alligators, lizards and turtles.
